A 3
-week-old boy presented with repeated episodes of vomiting and constipation. At laparotomy a jejunal diverticulum arising from its antimesenteric border and extending retroperitoneally was found. The narrow neck of diverticulum caused a situation similar to a Richter's
hernia
. The fundus of diverticulum was attached to the upper pole of left kidney. A retroperitoneal jejunal diverticulum is a new addition to the cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction.

.5-year-old girl sustained compression injury leading to isolated bilateral diaphragmatic rupture with extensive herniation of abdominal viscera into the pleuropericardial cavities. Reduction of the
hernia
and repair of the defects were readily accomplished through a thoraco-abdominal approach with excellent outcome.

-year-old Standardbred gelding was referred for evaluation of a fluctuant swelling that developed over the dorsum of the carpus subsequent to arthroscopic surgery on that carpus. A synovial
hernia
was diagnosed and surgically repaired. Although complications secondary to arthroscopy are rare, synovial herniation can develop after arthroscopic surgery. The condition must be differentiated from the more common true bursitis or false bursitis that is commonly referred to as a hygroma.

,200 g birth weight, 38-week gestational age neonate developed very severe persistent pulmonary hypertension following surgical repair of a left diaphragmatic
hernia
. Despite administration of dopamine, dobutamine, and tolazoline, a significant alveolar-arterial oxygen difference (660 mmHg) was found at age 41 hours. Nifedipine was then administered sublingually in a dose of 1 mg/kg and produced an immediate and dramatic improvement in the right radial artery pO2 that was sustained despite persistence of the right-to-left shunt. We discuss the mode of action of this vasodilating agent that, when added to major therapeutic agents, proved capable of completely reversing a hazardous neonatal situation.

-year-old child presented to the emergency department (ED) with the sudden onset of shortness of breath and wheezing. The child had previously been in good health and had no problems during the neonatal period. Chest x-ray performed in the ED was consistent with a Bochdalek diaphragmatic
hernia
. Subsequently, the child had surgery. The diagnosis was confirmed, and recovery was uneventful. The differential diagnosis of late onset congenital diaphragmatic
hernia
is discussed with an emphasis on both early recognition and differential diagnosis of this rare but correctable entity.

-week-old heifer was referred to the clinic for a suspected fistula of the urachus. Clinical examination revealed the calf to be in moderate condition with an umbilical
hernia
and an enterocutaneous fistula. Although in calves the abomasum is usually involved in the fistula, it became clear at surgery that this calf had a fistula of the small intestine. The treatment and surgical technique used are discussed.

-month-old Chinese male infant with typical manifestations of Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS), such as macroglossia, hepatomegaly, umbilical
hernia
and hypoglycemia, presented with a large hepatic tumor. The tumor measured 7.6 x 8.0 x 7.5 cm. An open biopsy of the tumor revealed hepatoblastoma. The family refused chemotherapy, so only supportive care was given. The tumor grew very rapidly and the infant died 17 days after admission due to respiratory failure. To our knowledge, this is the first report of BWS associated with hepatoblastoma in a Chinese infant. This patient was a typical example of the association of BWS and hepatoblastoma, and the possible effect of growth factors on the rapid proliferation of the neoplasm in BWS.

Laparoscopy is an advantageous method for the repair of intraabdominal undescended testis since both an abdominal exploration and vascular elongation can be effectively performed by laparoscopic assistance.
A 3
-year-old boy and a 1-year-old boy complaining of unilateral nonpalpable left testes were observed following previous congenital diaphragmatic
hernia
repairs on the day of birth. In these operations, a laparoscopic working sheath was inserted through a small supraumbilical incision. On each boy, a laparoscopically intraabdominal testis was found close to the left internal inguinal ring. In addition, a 10-mm trocar port was placed in the right lower abdominal quadrant and a 5-mm port was placed in the left lower quadrant. For the purpose of orchiopexy, the left testicular vessels were isolated over their full length. The left side of the testis was pulled through the inguinal ring to an inguinal canal divided by the abdominal wall, and then was retracted into the scrotum. The internal ring was thereafter closed externally by the fascia transversalis. Both patients are doing well, with no testicular atrophy or inguinal hernia for 1 and 2 years, respectively, after the above operations.

.5-year-old border collie was presented for routine ovariohysterectomy. A preoperative physical examination revealed no abnormalities, but, under anesthesia, the patient became dyspneic and cyanotic. Plain radiography indicated the presence of a diaphragmatic
hernia
. The herniated structures were returned to the abdomen and the diaphragmatic defect was surgically repaired.

-year-old boy presented with small bowel obstruction resulting from incarceration of the distal ileum in a mesentric defect. Attempted laparoscopy was unsuccessful. The
hernia
was reduced successfully at laparotomy.
