Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy
(
BSCL
) is a very rare genetic disorder characterized by lipoatrophy, hypertriglyceridemia,
hepatomegaly
and acromegaloid features. On the basis of mutational and haplotype analysis,
BSCL
families have been classified into three types
BSCL
1, BSCL2 and BSCLX. We report
Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy
(BSCL2 type) in three subjects from two unrelated Indian families (family1 and family2). The mutation (c.IVS2 11 A GT G ) found in affected members of family1 is a newly identified mutation. We also report the association of renal anomaly with this new mutation.

Berardinelli-Seip syndrome type 1 or
Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy
1 (BSCL1) is a very rare genetic disorder characterized by lipoatrophy, hypertriglyceridemia,
hepatomegaly
and acromegaloid features. Its prevalence in Egypt is not known. Here, we report case of a 12-year-old Egyptian boy with the clinical, metabolic and molecular genetics manifestations of BSCL1 including overt diabetes mellitus.

Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy
(
BSCL
) is a very rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by various dermatological and systemic manifestations such as lipoatrophy, hypertriglyceridemia,
hepatomegaly
, acanthosis nigricans, and acromegaloid features.
BSCL
type 2 is more common and severe, with onset in the neonatal period or in early infancy. The locus for BSCL2 has been identified on chromosome 11q13. Early recognition and differentiation from other congenital generalized lipodystrophies help in the initiation of appropriate preventive and therapeutic measures such as lifestyle modification and pharmacotherapy that helps postpone the onset of metabolic syndrome. We report
BSCL
type 2 in two siblings with several cutaneous manifestations like acanthosis nigricans, hypertrichosis, prominent subcutaneous veins, and increased lanugo hair.

Pancreatitis is among rare diseases in pediatrics clinics. It is usually presented with a sign of underlying systemic disease.
Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy
(
BSCL
) is a very rare disease characterized by near absence of adipose tissue resulting in apparent muscle hypertrophy from birth or early infancy associated with severe insulin resistance. Common clinical features are hypertriglyceridemia, acanthosis nigricans,
hepatomegaly
with or without splenomegaly and high stature. Acromegaloid features, cardiomyopathy and mental retardation can also be present. We describe a 7-year-old Turkish boy with these clinical features of
BSCL
and presented with acute pancreatitis.
