The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of core stability-enhancing exercises on the lower trunk and muscle activity of stroke patients. The control group (n = 10) underwent standard exercise therapy, while the experiment group (n =10) underwent both the core stability-enhancing exercise and standard exercise therapy simultaneously. The standard exercise therapy applied to the two groups included weight bearing and weight shifts and joint movements to improve flexibility and the range of motion. The core stability-enhancing exercise was performed 5 times a week for 30 min over a period of 4 weeks in the room where the patients were treated. For all 20 subject, the items measured before the exercise were measured after the therapeutic intervention, and changes in muscle activity of the lower trunk were evaluated. The activity and stability of the core muscles were measured using surface electromyography and the trunk impairment scale (
TIS)
. The mean TIS score and muscle activity of the lower trunk increased in the experiment group significantly after performing the core stability-enhancing exercise (P<0.05). The results of this study show that the core stability-enhancing exercise is effective in improving muscle activity of the lower trunk, which is affected by
hemiplegia
.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of activation of the foot on the trunk mobility of patients with
hemiplegia
. [Subjects] Sixteen subjects with
hemiplegia
took part in the immediate group (IG), and 14 subjects with
hemiplegia
participated in the 2-month group (2MG). [Methods] The subjects in IG were given one leg stance training through activation of the foot only once, and 2MG received the same intervention for 30 minutes 3 times a week for, 8 weeks. The Spinal Mouse was used to collect spinal alignment data. Also, the trunk Impairment Scale (
TIS)
and Sensory test were used as functional tests. [Results] Sacral hip (SH), lumbar spine (LS) and thoracic spine (TS) angles in IG improved significantly, but not inclination (I), and 2MG showed increased angles of SH, LS and I, but not TS. Also, TIS Dynamic, TIS Coordination and Sensory test results of 2MG increased significantly. [Conclusion] One leg stance training through activation of the foot was effective at improving sensory input and alignment of the spine, therefore trunk mobility was improved.

[Purpose] This study aimed to explore whether trunk kinesiology taping (KT) can improve trunk function, mobility, and balance in post-stroke patients with hemiparesis. [Participants and Methods] We conducted a single-group pre-post design pilot feasibility study. Thirteen individuals with post-stroke
hemiplegia
were recruited for this study. All patients received therapeutic trunk KT on the skin, representing the direction of fibres of the trunk muscles underneath. We used the Trunk Impairment Scale (
TIS)
and Trunk Control Test (TCT) to measure trunk function, Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) for balance, limits of stability (LOS) to evaluate balance, and the modified Rivermead mobility index (MRMI) to assess mobility in post-stroke patients. All measures were assessed before and immediately after the intervention. [Results] No adverse effects were found and all patients completed the trial. Compared to the baseline, TIS scores were significantly increased after KT, whereas no changes in TCT score were detected. The directional control of LOS was significantly improved, while no significant changes were seen in the other parameters of LOS, FMA-balance, and MRMI scores. [Conclusion] The results of this investigation show that trunk KT has immediate effects that improve certain trunk functional and balance parameters in stroke patients.
