The thixotropic parameters of whole blood in two groups of children with congenital
heart disease
(CHD) were measured. Group 1. cyanotic
heart disease
(CCHD), 20 cases; Group 2. acyanotic
heart disease
(ACHD), 30 cases. Fifty healthy children were controls matched with the patients in sex and age. Their thixotropic parameters were compared; the paired t-test was used. In the children with CCHD, the hematocrit (HCT), the yield stress (tau 0) the Newtonian contribution of viscosity (mu), the equilibrium value of the structural parameter (A), the apparent viscosity at 2.37 sec-1 (eta s) and the Non-Newtonian contribution of viscosity (eta s-mu) were significantly higher than those in corresponding control groups. In the children with ACHD, only the values of tau 0, eta s-mu, and eta s were higher than those in control groups. All of the thixotropic parameters in CCHD group were significantly higher than those in ACHD group. Thus we described quantitatively CHD in terms of thixotropy of blood. The thixotropic parameters of blood could be used as indexes of severity for pathologic changes of CHD.

To compare the costs and effectivenesses of 2-dimensional/Doppler echocardiography (2D/DE), cardiac catheterization (CC) and angiography (CA) in the evaluation of cardiac anatomy in patients with congenital
heart disease
, these three kinds of examinations were performed in 100 patients before operation. The 100 patients had 120 separate cardiovascular abnormalities, of which 100 (83.3%) were prospectively identified by 2D/DE. The sensitivity and specificity of 2D/DE were: ASD, 87.9% and 100%; VSD, 97.9% and 96.1%; PDA, 86.7% and 98.2%, Tetralogy of Fallot, 6 of 6 patients; the overall sensitivity and specificity of the less common defects, 31.6% and 95.8%. Ninety-seven (80.8%) were prospectively identified by catheterization. The sensitivity and specificity of catheterization were: ASD, 87.9% and 100.0%; VSD, 80.9% and 94.6%; PDA 93.3% and 96.6%; Tetralogy of Fallot, 6 of 6 patients, the less common defects, 52.6% and 95.5%. Forty-five (81.8%) were prospectively identified by angiography in 55 patients. The sensitivity and specificity of angiography: ASD, 5 of 7 patients, VSD, 88.0% and 94.3%; PDA, 2 of 2 patients; Tetralogy of Fallot, 5 of 5 patients; the less common defects, 68.8% and 100.0%. The economic evaluations were performed. The costs of the depreciation (including equipments and houses), hospital bed, water and electricity, management and staffs' wage were: 2D/DE, RMB 46.09 per patient; catheterization, RMB 314.17 per patient; angiography, RMB 314.17. The ratios of cost to outcome (cost per correct diagnosis) of 2D/DE, CC and CA were: 55.33, 388.82 and 384.07 respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

The expression plasmid of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) 52kd glycoprotein was induced and amplified, and the recombinant protein was extracted. The rabbit antiserum to the recombinant protein was prepared. The antiserum-reacted to the antigen of HCMV AD165, and the titer of antiserum was 1 : 3200 by using 125I-Protein A. Using Avidin-Biotinperoxidase complex technique (ABC method), we detected the HCMV 52 kd glycoprotein in the hapatic slides of 9 cases. Among them, one case (an infant died of congenital
heart disease
) was held as a negative control. The other 8 cases (patients with clinically diagnosed cytomegalic inclusion disease) had viral hepatitis histopathologically. Of these 8 cases, 7 had positive signals but found in the nucleus and cytomembrane of the hepatocytes, no positive signal was found in the hepatocytes of the control. The result showed that HCMV 52kd glycoprotein was located in the nucleus and on the membrane of the infected hepatocyte. The antibody prepared with the antigen of gene engineering could find the virus antigen and represent the virus gene state which was active or silent. ABC method is not only simple, sensitive and specific, but also effective in localization. It is of importance to clinical diagnosis, differential diagnosis and prognostication.

The causes of death of 35 cases of pancreas hemorrhage have been analysed. The pancreas hemorrhage was seen not only in acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, but also in poisoning, mechanical injury, mechanical asphyxia, and
heart disease
. The diagnosis and pathogenesis of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis were discussed.
