Encephalocele, glioma and dermoid cyst are the most common midline nasal masses. Given their potential for intracranial extension, prompt treatment is necessary to prevent complications. Herein, we present two cases of midline nasal masses. A comparison was made to delineate the differences between their clinical courses, treatments and outcomes. Case 1 was a baby girl with respiratory distress beginning at birth. Nasal glioma without definite intracranial extension was present. The mass was completely excised with the aid of a video-assisted endoscope without complications. At follow-up two years after surgery, no recurrence was noted. Case 2 was a two-year-old boy with a midline nasal dermoid cyst. Extirpation of the lesion through a vertical-dorsal approach was performed. He was discharged three days after surgery with a satisfactory aesthetic result.

Nasal glioma, also known as glial heterptopia or the occurrence of isolated non - leratomatous glial tissue is a rare and benign congenital defect. This condition is diagnosed usually at birth time and requires early treatment to prevent facial deformations. We report here a case of extranasal glioma that was diagnosed and treated at the department of ENT, Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. We emphasize on the developmental theory proposed as the etiology and discuss the clinical aspects, treatment and follow up.

Nasal glioma, which is also known as nasal glial heterotopia, is a rare benign congenital lesion. A lot of explanations for the pathogenesis of this disease have already been provided. However, all of them lack theoretical basis. Nowadays, for nasal glioma, complete resection of the tumor is generally used in clinic treatment. CT examination or MRI is necessary for confirming the lesions and the relation between the tumor and intracranial part. This paper reported a neonatal nasal glioma case associated with congenital nasal deformity.

Nasal glioma, encephalocele, and ectopic brain are rare congenital anomalies. The terminology applied to these entities has been historically confusing. In many cases, the terms overlap and may be employed synonymously although some authors emphasize their differences. The authors describe herein a child with an inner canthal mass of brain-like tissue that they interpret as nasal glioma, a variety of encephalocele that has lost its connection to the intracranial contents. This research was conducted in conformity with the Helsinki Declaration and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.

Nasal glioma is a rare congenital malformation in maxillofacial region. It is sluggish, benign, non-tumorous and with low recurrence rate. It is important to evaluate whether there is any intracranial connection before the operation through CT or MRI to avoid the serious intracranial complications. We reported a case of a adult with a nasal glioma in sphenoid sinus, and discuss clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and pathology.
