Catarrhal proventriculitis due to infection by an unidentified organism was diagnosed in 79 of 534 pet birds examined histologically. It was more prevalent in domestic birds (70 cases) than in imported ones (9 cases). A high incidence of the disease was encountered in budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) and it was occasionally found in finches (Poephila gouldiae gouldiae), parakeets (Psittacula Krameri manillensis), Amazona parrots (Amazona aestiva aestiva) and cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus). The agent was a large filamentous rod, and was stained positively with Gram, GMS and PAS methods. Histologically, it induced a mild to moderate exudative or proliferative inflammation in the proventriculus. All the cases had an erosion in the gizzard. Ultrastructurally, the organism had a eukaryotic nucleus and three cell-wall layers. Concurrent infections were very common, including adenoviruses (37 cases), giardiasis (31 cases), candidiasis (13 cases), papovaviruses (11 cases) and knemidocoptic mites (11 cases).

In 53 patients with chronic diarrhea ileoscopy was done following colonoscopy. Beside the microscopic examination, terminal ileum biopsies and mucosal smears were also performed. Endoscopy of the terminal ileum was abnormal in eight patients (15.1%); biopsy itself was diagnostic in 22 patients (41.5%): primary bile acid malabsorption with mucosal atrophy and reduced retention of 75ScHCAT (10), mucosal atrophy after cholecystectomy (4), Crohn's disease (6), backwash ileitis in ulcerative colitis (1), and postirradiation ileitis (1). Biopsies were normal but mucosal smear indicated the cause of diarrhea in a further 10 patients: giardiasis was found in 7, and candidiasis in 3 patients. All in all, endoscopy, biopsy and mucosal smear of terminal ileum showed a sensitivity of 58.5%. In 38 patients in whom laboratory, roentgenologic and endoscopic investigation failed to establish the etiology of diarrhea, the sensitivity of ileoscopy itself was 0%, of ileoscopy with biopsy 36.8% and ileoscopy with biopsy and mucosal smear 47.4%. We conclude that endoscopy, biopsy and mucosal smear of the terminal ileum are indicated in the investigation of patients with chronic diarrhea.

115 patients with non-immune (IgE-negative) urticaria, related to parasitic (lambliasis, oxyuriasis, ascaridiasis) or fungal (candidiasis) associations were investigated-both before and one month after specific and antihistaminic therapy-concerning different percentage levels of blood lymphocyte sets and subsets, by means of flow cytometry. Before therapy, three kinds of immune deficiency patients were obtained, one in lambliasis and oxyuriasis, the second in ascaridiasis, and the third in candidiasis, respectively. Clinical, biological and immunological recovering after therapy exhibited some differences related to the presumed non-allergic etiology, i.e. better in lambliasis and oxyuriasis and worse in ascaridiasis and candidiasis.

Based on many years of experience in 2009, we developed the original concept of a mixed approach to the treatment of infectious diseases in patients. During 2.5 years(from 2013 to June 2015) to have applied for consultative-diagnostic help of 3965 patients who had not verified the primary diagnosis. The basic principle of verification of the pathology of the removal of various causes immunosuppression. Based on our extensive, research and observation was often found in patients ascaridosis (55%) and giardiasis (65%), as a possible cause of immunosuppression. In 13% of patients was found the mucosal candidiasis. Among frequently and chronically ill persons we identified the active forms of Epstein-Barr virus (quantitative polymerase chain reaction in saliva) in 40%. The criterion for assessing performance immunogram was a decrease of two sigmal deviation from the lower age limit. In the study of neutrophil myeloperoxidase content observed decline (< 60%) in 99 (9.7%) of 1015 patients, indicating a fairly common cause of long-term permit infection in the tissues and persistence C. albicans. In the study of lymphocyte subpopulations often demonstrated reduction in the number of natural killer cells (26.7% of subjects), which shows a decline of one of the most important factors of congenital immunity. Among the humoral immune disorders often noted the decrease of total IgG (2.4%) and its subclass IgG1 (22.1%), indicating a significant diagnostic value determination of IgG subclasses it even with normal serum total. Thus, approximately 76% of patients often suffer set of a decrease immunity. Patients developed with mixed infections caused by various bacterial, fungal, viral and protozoan agents and worms. Immunological study of patients should be redynamics after eliminating the causes immunosuppression and sanitation foci of infection. Only multi-level examination of the patient will determine the final diagnosis and adequate treatment.
