There is a relationship between
gastroesophageal reflux
and respiratory diseases. Reflux may trigger and aggravate respiratory diseases especially bronchial asthma. Both clinical and experimental observations suggest that the pathogenic mechanisms may be a vagal reflex and/or microaspiration of gastric acid into the trachea.
