Fox-Fordyce disease (FFD) is a rare skin disease manifesting as multiple pruritic follicular papules involving the skin-bearing apocrine glands. Reports of FFD in Asian people are scant. In this retrospective study, we describe the clinicopathological findings of five cases of FFD affecting Taiwanese subjects. Clinically, all patients presented with numerous uniform, 2-3-mm, skin-colored to light brown, dome-shaped papules with smooth surface, which were distributed in the apocrine gland-containing areas. Pruritus varied from mild to severe. The histopathology is characterized by focal spongiosis in the upper infundibulum with perifollicular fibrosis and lymphohistiocytic infiltrate. FFD needs to be differentiated from lichen amyloidosis, Darier's disease, syringoma, lichen simplex chronicus and spongiotic dermatitis clinically or pathologically. The findings of focal spongiosis in upper infundibulum associated with a perifollicular lymphohistiocytic infiltrate can facilitate the diagnosis of FFD.

The proportion of sulphur found in vegetation increases as an industrial sulphur dioxide emission source is approached, but this trend is modified by topographic extremes. Stable sulphur isotope analysis revealed that increased sulphur concentrations in arborcal and terricolous lichens, andPicea glauca needles were due to incorporation of sulphur emitted as sulphur dioxide by the Kaybob sour gas plant near Fox Creek, Alberta, Canada. It is confirmed thatPicea glauca gets its sulphur from both the soil and the air; arboreal lichens get their sulphur primarily from the atmosphere; and terricolous lichens get theirs from the air and particulate fallout. It is suggested that arboreal lichens selectively excrete isotopically light sulphur when thallus concentrations exceed 1,400 ppm. Accumulation of sulphur in vegetation is dependent, on fumigation episode duration, frequency, and concentration, as well as the plant's ability to avoid injury, but is not closely correlated with average sulphation rates. The implications of terrestrial moss-lichen carpet destruction is discussed.

Fox-Fordyce disease (FFD) is a rare chronic skin disease of the apocrine unit. It presents chiefly in postpubertal females as grouped, monomorphic, skin-colored follicular papules associated with intense pruritus commonly in axillae but may involve pubic, perineal, areolar, and umbilical areas [An Bras Dermatol. 2018;93(1):161-2]. Diagnosis is mostly clinical as histological features are often nonspecific and variable. However, the lesions at times may be mistaken for irritant contact dermatitis, lichen nitidus, syringoma, etc. [J Dermatol. 2009;36(9):485-90]. Dermoscopy is being increasingly utilized in pigmentary and inflammatory skin disorders. In this communication, we describe the dermoscopic features in FFD, which shows typical light brown to dark brown folliculocentric structureless areas with loss of dermatoglyphics. Some of the lesions also show hyperkeratotic follicular plugging.
