Some activities performed by healthcare workers may still involve total or partial exposure to ionising radiation exceeding the limit values. In addition to the appearance of crystalline lens opacities which may lead to rays-cataract, recent studies have indicated possible induction of ocular
hypertonia
in occupationally exposed subjects. The aim of this study was to establish the actual prevalence of ocular
hypertonia
and crystalline lens opacities in a group of healthcare workers exposed to ionising radiation. The collected data failed to show significant risk of ocular
hypertonia
and suggested that crystalline lens opacity was not an important indicator of exposure. Notwithstanding, preventive and periodic (every 5 years) ophthalmologic control may prove helpful for medicolegal purposes. Namely, such control would record congenital crystalline lens opacities in many individuals and would thus rule out unjustified claims of occupational disease due to exposure to ionising radiation. Additionally, ophthalmologic control should focus on different and probably more important ocular risks for the radiologists such as the ocular
fatigue
resulting from a prolonged use of a video display terminal or other diagnostic screens or electrodiaphanoscopes.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of functional limitations and
fatigue
on the quality of life (QoL) in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). A descriptive case series study at Lagoa Hospital - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was carried. The main outcome measurements were demographic variables, QoL (SF-36 v.1), disability (EDSS), motor function of the upper limb (Box & Blocks test), Tone (Modified Ashworth Scale), gait (Hauser ambulatory index) and
fatigue
(
Fatigue
Severity Scale). Sixty one patients fulfilled the study criteria. The mean age of patients was 39 years and 74% of patients were female. The most of cases presented mild disability (EDSS<3.5). A decrease was found in all domains of QoL. It was found association between physical functioning and the variables of EDSS,
fatigue
, lower limb tone and gait. Gait, disability,
hypertonia
of the lower limbs and
fatigue
negatively affected QoL in people with MS.

Temporomandibular disorder is a generic and inadequate conception to be used as a diagnosis. It fails to express the etiology or the pathophysiology and it is mainly associated with the anatomical site. Moreover, the clinical condition presents a mandibular motor problem and not a joint problem. The hypothesis presents the new diagnosis stomatognathic motor adaptive syndrome, which comprehend a motor response and the adaptive processes it induces. Inadequate occlusal contacts cause the mandible to shift in order to reach an ideal intercuspal position. The condylar displacements are proportional to such movements. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) receptors respond to the capsular mechanical stress and the information reaches the trigeminal sensory nuclei. The mandibular modified position seems to be relevant information and may interfere with catecholaminergic neurotransmission in basal ganglia. The main motor responses comprise increased jaw muscle tone, decreased velocity of movements and incoordination. The overload of muscle function will produce adaptive responses on many stomatognathic structures. The muscle adaptive responses are
hypertonia
, pain,
fatigue
and weakness. Temporomandibular joint presents tissue modification, disc alteration and cracking noise. Periodontium show increased periodontal membrane, bone height loss and gingival recession. Teeth manifest increased wear facets, abfraction and non-accidental fractures. The periodontal and teeth adaptive processes are usually identified as occlusal trauma. The altered stomatognathic functions will show loss of velocity during mastication and speech.
Fatigue
, weakness in jaw muscle and difficulties to chew hard food are related to
hypertonia
. Incoordination between stomatognathic muscles groups is found, causing involuntary tongue/cheek biting and lateral jaw movements on speech. Otologic complaints, as aural fullness and tinnitus, are related to the tensor tympani muscle, innervated by the trigeminal nerve.

To elucidate clinical trial efficacy, safety, and dosing practices of AbobotulinumtoxinA (ABO) treatment in adult patients with lower limb spasticity.A systematic literature review was performed to identify randomized controlled trials of ABO in the treatment of adult lower limb spasticity.Of the 295 records identified, 6 primary publications evaluated ABO for the management of lower limb spasticity of various etiologies and were evaluated. Total ABO doses ranged between 500 and 2000 U for lower limb spasticity, depending on the muscles injected. All studies in lower limb spasticity showed statistically significant reduction in muscle tone based on Modified Ashworth Scale of ABO versus placebo. Significant effects on active movement and pain were demonstrated albeit less consistently. ABO was generally well tolerated across the individual studies; most adverse events reported were considered unrelated to treatment. Treatment-related adverse events included but not limited to
fatigue
, local pain at injection site,
hypertonia
, dry mouth, weakness of the noninjected muscle, abnormal gait, and urinary tract infection. These data from 6 randomized clinical studies provide the beginnings of an evidence base for the use of ABO to reduce lower limb spasticity. Ongoing studies in this area will add to this evidence base.

Rats of the experimental group for 30 days received a ration in which the fat component (sunflower oil) was completely substituted with a lipid module enriched with docosahexaenoic acid and astaxanthin. Anxiety of animals in elevated plus-maze test and muscle tone in the grip strength test were evaluated before and after the experiment. Exhausting treadmill exercise was simulated after 30 days of feeding the lipid module. Modification of the lipid component of the diet (enrichment with docosahexaenoic acid and astaxanthin) reduced
fatigue
during exhausting physical exercise,
increased muscle tone
, and produced an anxiolytic effect. The results indicate the prospects of using the lipid module as a functional food ingredient in the composition of specialized food products.
