Imaging procedures are important for diagnosis and surveillance of patients in intensive care units. Radiologic examination, ultrasound and echocardiography are of paramount importance because they can be done bedside. Portable chest x-ray examination is the procedure of choice for documentation of tubes, lines and devices, estimation of cardiopulmonary function, demonstration of pulmonary edema, ARDS pneumonia, atelectasis and pneumothorax Plainfilm radiologic imaging of the abdomen is indicated when perforation
ileus
or acute intestinal pseudoobstruction is suspected Echocardiography can give information about ventricular function, pericardial effusion, cardiac valves, functional importance and complications of myocardial infarction, and hemodynamic changes of pulmonary embolism. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is the method of choice when
endocarditis
, aortic dissection or cardiac thromboembolism is considered. Ultrasound can show many pathologic changes important for the management of intensive care patients concerning liver, gallbladder, bile duct, pancreas, kidney, spleen, pleural space and vessels. Other imaging procedures such as CT, methods of nuclear medicine, MRT, angiography etc. are done outside the intensive care unit and therefore need a more restricted indication.

A 72-year-old man was treated for fungal tricuspid valve
endocarditis
(TVE) with significant tricuspid valvular regurgitation and severe congestive heart failure caused by Candida parapsilosis. The patient had received hyperalimentation and antibiotic therapy for three months through a central venous catheter after the surgical treatment of
ileus
. The patient was treated medically with amphotericin B and fluconazole because of high surgical risk due to severe pulmonary emphysema, and he responded well. Although TVE caused by C. parapsilosis is rare, we should consider this possibility in patients receiving long-term hyperalimentation and antibiotic therapy using a central venous catheter.

We present a case of a middle-aged male patient who was admitted to our institution because of the supposed diagnosis of
endocarditis
/myocarditis. Echocardiographic findings revealed cystic mass in the left myocardial wall as well as floating structures at the lateral papillary muscle, mimicking
endocarditis
/myocarditis. Due to progressive urinary retention and clinical signs of a beginning
ileus
, an abdominal and thoracic computed tomographic scan was performed, which demonstrated a large diverticle of the urinary bladder with expansive tumorous wall mass. One week later, the patient died of acute cardiorespiratory failure. On autopsy, the tumorous mass in the urinary bladder with large carcinosis of the peritoneum and multiple left and right ventricular metastases were confirmed; the histological analysis indicated a less differentiated urothelial cell carcinoma with its origin in the large diverticle of the urinary bladder with subsequent cardiac metastases.
