An autopsy case of "lipomatous hypertrophy of the cardiac interatrial septum" (LHIS) combined with marked stenosis and calcification of the aortic and mitral valves due to fibrous valvular endocarditis, malignant lymphoma, and mucin-producing cancer of the pancreas is reported. LHIS and mucin-producing cancer of the pancreas were incidental findings at autopsy. Microscopically, the LHIS in this case consisted of proliferation of mature fat cells, brown fat cells and cardiac muscle cells. Since these three cell types are normal structural components of the interatrial septum, it was considered that the LHIS was a hamartomatous rather than hypertrophic lesion, of the cardiac atrial septum. Accordingly it was concluded that the term "lipomatous hamartoma of the cardiac atrial septum" was more appropriate for this lesion in the case presented here. As far as we know, this is the first reported case of LHIS in Japan.

We present a rare case of lipomatous hamartoma of the aortic valve. A 17-year-old woman was admitted with cardiac murmur. Echocardiography demonstrated severe aortic regurgitation and a highly echoic mass on the right cusp of the aortic valve. Surgery was performed with a differential diagnosis of chronic infective endocarditis or aortic valve tumor. At operation, a yellowish bead-shaped tumor was detected on the right cusp of the aortic valve, and aortic valve replacement was performed. Histopathological examination confirmed a lipomatous hamartoma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a lipomatous hamartoma located on the aortic valve.

A right atrial mass was observed by ultrasound in a 3-month-old red Holstein calf. Differential diagnoses included endocarditis or tumor. Due to the poor prognosis, the calf was euthanized. On gross examination, there was a marked dilation of the right atrium. A round, poorly delineated, 2 cm mass was visualized in the right atrium. Microscopic findings were consistent with a vascular hamartoma.
