Lymphocytic leukemia and
lymphosarcoma
were diagnosed in a rabbit with lethargy,
emaciation
, and pallor. The diagnosis was made on the bases of results of hematologic analysis, cytologic evaluation of a bone marrow specimen, and histologic examination. The
lymphosarcoma
was identified to be of T-cell origin. Leukemia is rarely diagnosed in rabbits, although
lymphosarcoma
is fairly common in this species.

The historic, physical, laboratory, and histologic findings for 74 cats with chronic renal disease were reviewed. Most cats were older, and no breed or sex predilection was detected. This most common clinical signs detected by owners were lethargy, anorexia, and weight loss. Dehydration and
emaciation
were common physical examination findings. Common laboratory findings were nonregenerative anemia, lymphopenia, azotemia, hypercholesterolemia, metabolic acidosis, hyperphosphatemia, and isosthenuria. The most common morphologic diagnosis was chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis of unknown cause. The other pathologic diagnoses were renal
lymphosarcoma
, renal amyloidosis, chronic pyelonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, polycystic renal disease, and pyogranulomatous nephritis secondary to feline infectious peritonitis.

Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) antigen was detected in a cat from Cape Town which was subjected to euthanasia after a long history of upper respiratory infection and progressive
emaciation
. Based on the necropsy findings and subsequent histopathological examinations, a diagnosis of
lymphosarcoma
was made. It is regarded as likely that this tumour was caused by infection with FeLV.

We evaluated the medical information from 10 New World Camelids with
lymphosarcoma
. Additionally, tumor tissue from 5 animals was examined by electron microscopy for evidence of retroviral particles.
Lymphosarcoma
was the most common neoplasm of New World Camelids in our hospital. Both llamas and alpacas, from 4 months to 15 years of age, were affected.
Emaciation
(7 of 8) and palpable masses (9 of 10) were the most common physical examination abnormalities, and a left-shifted leukogram (7 of 7) and hypoalbuminemia (6 of 7) were the most characteristic clinicopathologic findings.
Lymphosarcoma
was diagnosed by lymph node aspirate (n = 2), biopsy (n = 2), peritoneal fluid analysis (n = 2), or necropsy (n = 4). The clinical course after recognition of the disease was usually short, with a median survival of 1 month (1 week to 3 months). Organs with neoplastic infiltrates commonly included lymph nodes (n = 8), liver (n = 8), kidneys (n = 6), and lungs (n = 5). No retroviral particles were detected ultrastructurally.

An adult female white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) with a history of shaking, ataxia, and severe debilitation was submitted for examination. Macroscopic lesions included severe
emaciation
, severe abdominal and mesenteric lymphadenopathy, and several rumen-associated masses. Microscopically, the ruminal masses and lymph nodes were infiltrated by pleomorphic neoplastic lymphocytes. Similar lymphoblasts were associated with the leptomeninges, choroid plexus, and the intestinal mucosa; these cells were intensely positive for CD3 antigen, indicating their T-cell origin. Lymphoproliferative viruses (bovine leukemia virus and malignant catarrhal fever virus) or epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus were not detected by polymerase chain reaction. To our knowledge, this case represents the first report of the immunophenotype of a multicentric
lymphosarcoma
, metastasis involving the brain, and epitheliotropic lymphoblasts in a white-tailed deer.
