Alimentary obesity aggravated by latent diabetes mellitus is marked, apart from overweight and disturbed tolerance to carbohydrates, by high incidence of hyperlipoproteinemia running its course according to IIb and IV types, as well as by normal excretion rate of catecholamines. The reduced caloric value of the diet including sharp restriction of carbohydrates produces a favorable effect on the metabolic parameters under test, particularly on the level of low-density lipoproteins.
