There are several different approaches available for the palliation of esophago-gastric cancer. The decision on which type of therapy is used should be made individually based on an interdisciplinary consensus. In case of inoperable esophageal carcinoma, it becomes the primary objective of the therapy to maintain oral nutrition. This can be achieved through the insertion of self expanding metal stents as a minimally invasive procedure which results in an immediate elimination of
dysphagia
. As alternative and/or complementary therapy, radiological techniques (external beam radiation, brachytherapy) can be applied. Other locally endoscopic techniques (laser,
APC
-beamer) are often used for treating local complications of esophageal and inoperable stomach carcinomas. For these carcinomas palliative chemotherapy with cisplatin has been established as a standard regimen.

There have so far been few reports on esophageal diverticulum in children. We experienced two symptomatic pediatric cases with esophageal diverticulum. Our cases manifested high fever and
dysphagia
with chest pain during swallowing. The patients underwent endoscopic diverticulotomy. The septum between the diverticulum and the esophagus was cut using the argon plasma coagulation (
APC
3000) system. We recommend an endoscopic diverticulotomy as an effective treatment modality for such symptomatic cases.

A 73-year-old man admitted for anastomotic stricture not treated successfully with balloon dilation after proximal gastrectomy and fund plication in February 2009. Total gastrectomy and esophagojejunal anastomosis with mechanical stapler were performed.
Dysphagia
occurred after the operation and slack of jejunum mucosa directly under esophagojejunal anastomosis was observed with endoscope. Anastomotic stricture was not successfully treated with endoscopic balloon dilation. Therefore,
APC
was performed for slack of jejunum mucosa. As a result, anastomotic stricture was treated and had not reappeared until 1 year and 2 months later after
APC
.
APC
was safe and effective for anastomotic stricture of esophagojejunal anastomosis with mechanical stapler due to slack of jejunum mucosa.
