A 59-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for
dysphagia
and fever. Esophagogram and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a polypoid mass in the midesophagus. Subtotal esophagectomy, cervical esophagogastrostomy, and lymph node dissection were performed. The histological diagnosis of the tumor was
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
. An area of severe epithelial dysplasia was found in the esophageal mucosa 3 cm under the tumor.

We report the case of a 72-year-old woman hospitalized for
dysphagia
and odynophagia due to an ulcer of the esophagus. Thoracic CT-scan and esophageal endosonography revealed a tumour of the mediastinum which invaded the esophagus. Per-operative biopsies concluded to a probable
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma
(
MFH
) is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma of late adult life, but is relatively uncommon in the head and neck region. That region has been reported to be the origin of
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
in 3-10% of cases. Only one case of the tumor occurring in the pharynx has been reported. Histologically it is sometimes hard to distinguish this tumor from some sarcomas and pleomorphic carcinomas. The treatment of choice is a large surgical resection, while radiotherapy and chemotherapy are reserved for recurrences. The authors present a case of oropharyngeal
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
. The patient complained
dysphagia
and dyslalia progressively worsening in six months. Pharyngo-laryngoscopy revealed a mass of the left lateral wall of oro and hypopharynx. CT scan examination showed a capsuled mass which displaced but not involved the neck neurovascular structures; there was no evidence of linphonodal involvement. Transoral surgical excision of the mass was performed with the preservation of speech and swallowing. For more than 1 year postoperatively, there has been no evidence of the disease or metastasis.

A 61-year-old man had been treated for
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
with the pulmonary and the lymph node metastasis in the department of orthopedics in our hospital. He was admitted to our department because of an acute onset of conscious disturbance and non-fluent aphasia. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) showed high signal intensity areas in the bilateral cerebella, thalami and posterior lobes. T2WI did not show any mass effects. Enhanced CT did not reveal any enhanced lesion. He was diagnosed as having cerebral embolism, and his conscious disturbance was improved after medication. Eight weeks later, he presented
dysphagia
, dysarthria, and ataxia in his extremities. DWI showed multiple lesions of low signal intensity located at the identical place where had showed high signal intensity in the initial DWI. T2WI showed high signal intensity area with mass effect. It was indicated that cerebral metastasis might grow after tumorgenic embolism. This is a rare case that tumor emboluses were developed to the metastatic brain tumors.

Sarcomas of the larynx are rare neoplasmas that consitute less than 1% of laryngeal malignancies, and their usual treatment is surgery including partial and total laryngectomy and endoscopic laser cordotomy with reported 20% recurrence. Due to previous positive experience from transversal laryngotomy in patients who underwent aritenoidectomy to treat bilateral cord paralysis after total thyroidectomy, the purpose of this work was to report on the surgical treatment of this rare case with such technique. Thus, a 47 year-old physician who complained of hoarseness for four months without dyspnea, stridor, or
dysphagia
and with no history of irradiation or chemotherapy was operated after both endoscopic and tomographic studies showed a 3 to 4 cm glotic tumor in its right side, with no ulceration. The pathology proved to be
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
. Five years after surgery the patient is alive with no evidence of disease.

Head and neck sarcomas are rare and consist of a variety of histologic subtypes. We present a case of undifferentiated/unclassified sarcoma (UUS) of the maxillary sinus, a tumor subtype historically known as
malignant fibrous histiocytoma
(
MFH
) or undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS). A 50-year-old female patient presented with worsening facial pain and
dysphagia
. Physical examination demonstrated a large, ulcerated mass protruding from the oral cavity. Computed tomography demonstrated a large, enhancing mass centered in the right maxillary sinus with local invasion. The initial biopsy was read as "central giant cell granuloma." Conservative management yielded no improvement, and the tumor grew steadily. The patient underwent a total maxillectomy with resection of the orbital floor and an anterior ethmoidectomy, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. In addition to treatment of this patient, we discuss a review of the literature and the clinical presentation, radiologic, and histologic findings of this disease.
