Inflammatory pseudotumor
(
IPT
) is a rare disease that usually occurs in the lung. Patients with
IPT
are usually asymptomatic, with a solitary pulmonary nodule or mass detected on routine chest roentgenogram.
IPT
can behave as a malignant tumor both clinically and radiologically. Cough, fever, dyspnea, and hemoptysis are the usual presenting symptoms. This report describes the case of a 37-year-old man with a 4-month course of
dysphagia
secondary to lower esophageal invasion by the posterior mediastinal extension of a lung
IPT
.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor
is a rare neoplasm of intermediate malignant potential. Although inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor occurs at multiple anatomic locations, an esophageal lesion is extremely rare. We describe a 43-year-old man who presented with severe
dysphagia
and an inflammatory syndrome, secondary to esophageal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. The patient was treated successfully with esophagectomy and remains disease free at 1 year. This case illustrates the complexities involved in managing a large esophageal myofibroblastic tumor and highlights that esophagectomy, rather than enucleation, should be the treatment of choice.

Inflammatory pseudotumor
(
IPT
) is a rare benign lesion, often imitating a malignant disease. An
IPT
was found in the sinus piriformis of a 40-year-old male who suffered from
dysphagia
, globus feeling and a weight loss of 5 kilograms in six months. Neither common infections previously described in combination with
IPT
such as human herpes virus (HHV) 8, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acute Epstein Barr virus (EBV), nor evidence of manifestation of a systemic mastocytosis or a malignant disease were found. The primary therapy for
IPT
in locations other than the orbita is complete resection, if this is not applicable or recurrence occurs then cyclosporine, chlorambucil, indometacin or radiation have been used as alternative treatments. A transoral laser-assisted resection was performed in the case described here, resulting in a complete and lasting cure.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour
(
IMT
) is an uncommon mesenchymal tumour, which can occur anywhere in the body, rarely in esophagus. Mostly, the diagnosis is postoperative, after the hispathological evaluation of the specimen. There are no definite guidelines regarding the diagnosis and management. Here, we report a 60 year old lady presenting with
dysphagia
, diagnosed to have a submucosal esophageal tumor with Barium esophagogram and contrast enhanced computed tomography. She was managed successfully with surgical enucleation with the final histopathological diagnosis of
IMT
. Surgical excision is not only therapeutic but also diagnostic in such cases.
