Light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding (Lhc) proteins comprise a plant-specific superfamily involved in photosynthesis and stress responses. Despite their importance, little is known in papaya (Carica papaya), an economically important tree fruit crop as well as a species close to the model plant arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). This study reports a first genome-wide analysis of Lhc superfamily genes in papaya, and a total of 28 members that represent four defined families or 26 orthologous groups were identified from the papaya genome. The superfamily number is comparable to 28 or 27 reported in castor (Ricinus communis) and jatropha (Jatropha curcas), respectively, two Euphorbiaceous plants also without any recent whole-genome duplication (WGD), but relatively less than 35, 34, 32, 32, 37, 30 or 32 present in cassava (Manihot esculenta), arabidopsis, A. lyrata, A. halleri, Capsella
rubella
, C. grandiflora, and Eutrema salsugineum, respectively, representative species having experienced one or two recent WGDs. Local duplication was shown to play a predominant role in gene expansion in papaya, castor, and jatropha, which is only confined to the Lhcb1 group. By contrast, WGD plays a relatively more important role in cassava, arabidopsis, and other Brassicaceous plants. Further comparison of Brassicaceous plants revealed that loss of the SEP6 group in arabidopsis is lineage-specific, occurring sometime after papaya-arabidopsis divergence but before the radiation of Brassicaceous plants. Transcriptional profiling revealed a leaf-preferential expression pattern of most CpLhc superfamily genes and their transcript levels were markedly regulated by three abiotic stresses, i.e., mimicking drought,
cold
, and high salt. These findings not only facilitate further functional studies in papaya, but also improve our knowledge on lineage-specific evolution of this special gene superfamily in Brassicaceae.

The main objective of this study is to describe the most common childhood diseases occurring in the Theresienstadt ghetto during the Second World War as well as applied anti-epidemic measures. A partial objective is to describe medical and nursing care of sick child prisoners. The data was obtained by the method of synthesis of primary and secondary data with the highest importance after adequate external source criticism using selected monographs, memoirs, survivor diaries, Orders of the day by the Council of the Elders and Reports of the Jewish self-government of the Theresienstadt ghetto from 1941 to 1945, the Archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague, the Ghetto Museum, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, Post Bellum online electronic collection of oral historical interviews, and witness accounts. The validity of the presented conclusions is ensured by comparing data from several sources. The most common infections in Theresienstadt children were enteritis, scarlet fever, infectious jaundice, measles, mumps,
rubella
, varicella, black cough, pneumonia, otitis media, and typhoid fever. Most of these infections had entirely atypical symptomatology or complications. Children were hospitalized in children's hospitals, in children's rooms of hospitals for adults and infirmaries in children's homes. Albeit diagnostic methods had a high standard, options of treatment were very limited. The most common treatments included bed rest, diet and
cold
compress. Occasionally, chemotherapeutic agents (e.g. a sulphonamide drug Prontosil) and Aspirin were available. The anti-epidemic measures in the ghetto focused on hygiene, enhancing children's immunity, vaccination and pest control.

While morbidity and mortality associated with measles and
rubella
(MR) have dramatically decreased, there are still >100000 estimated deaths due to measles and an estimated 100000 infants born with congenital rubella syndrome annually. Given highly effective MR vaccines, the primary barrier to global elimination of these diseases is low vaccination coverage, especially among the most underserved populations in resource-limited settings. In contrast to conventional MR vaccination by hypodermic injection, microneedle patches are being developed to enable MR vaccination by minimally trained personnel. Simplified supply chain, reduced need for
cold
chain storage, elimination of vaccine reconstitution, no sharps waste, reduced vaccine wastage, and reduced total system cost of vaccination are advantages of this approach. Preclinical work to develop a MR vaccine patch has proceeded through successful immunization studies in rodents and non-human primates. On-going programs seek to make MR vaccine patches available to support MR elimination efforts around the world.
