The age standardized mortality rates, by sex, for cancer all sites and some diagnostic sites were calculated in the 22 Areas of the city of Rosario during the period 1977-81. The rates of the different cancer sites, by Areas, were correlated with stomach and colon cancers, by sex, applying the Kendall's tau, a non-parametric method of correlation. While the mortality rates for cancer all sites and for stomach cancer in males were higher than in females in almost all of the Areas, for colon cancer they were almost similar. Colon cancer rates in both sexes had negative correlations with infant mortality rates, and in females had positive correlations with
breast cancer
, and negative correlations with cervix and uterus cancer.
Stomach
mortality rates had negative correlations with those of colon in both sexes, and positive correlations with total cancer and infant mortality rates. The distribution of the mortality rates of some cancer sites and their correlations suggest that some risk factors and shared in their causal chain.

Using data from the National Hospice Study, nausea and vomiting in terminal cancer patients and physician response to these symptoms were studied. Nausea and vomiting developed in 62% of terminal cancer patients with prevalence rates of at least 40% during the last six weeks of life.
Stomach
and
breast cancer
were significantly more likely to be associated with nausea and vomiting; lung and brain primary sites were significantly less likely to have this association. Although women and younger patients reported higher rates, no relationship could be demonstrated between these symptoms and the Karnofsky level or chemotherapy during the last six weeks of life. In the subsample for whom medication use was known, 32% of nauseated patients received antiemetic prescriptions. Physicians were less likely to prescribe antiemetics for elderly patients and those with serious mental impairment. When prescribed, 72% of nauseated patients consumed antiemetics.

This study addresses the disparity in cancer survival rates among hospitals in Osaka, Japan. Using data from the Osaka Cancer Registry, four-year survival rates for stomach cancer patients (n = 8,845) diagnosed in 1976, 1981 and 1986, and lung cancer (n = 9,795) and
breast cancer
patients (n = 7,377) diagnosed in 1975-77, 1980-82 and 1985-87 were calculated according to four hospital categories (teaching hospitals, large hospitals: 400 + beds excluding teaching hospitals, medium-size hospitals: 150-399 beds, and small hospitals: 20-149 beds). Cox's proportional hazards model was employed with adjustment for sex, age, clinical stage at diagnosis, and treatment status.
Stomach
and lung cancer patients treated in large, medium-size and small hospitals showed significantly higher risks of death than those treated in teaching hospitals in 1975-87. Interhospital differences in
breast cancer
survival appeared to increase in 1975-87, whereas those in stomach and lung cancer survivals decreased during the same period.

Berries and berry extracts possess properties that make them important in the prevention of cancer. The high antioxidant levels of these extracts play a role, but components of the berries can have other effects on cell replication and survival. We chose to test the hypothesis that (i) although the antioxidant capacity of raspberry extracts is important for inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells, other characteristics of the berry extracts are responsible for a major part of their antiproliferative activity, and that (ii) the relative importance of the antioxidant effect can depend on the cell type being studied. The aim of this study was to assess the relative roles of low pH and high antioxidant levels in the killing of 3 cell types by an aqueous extract from Meeker red raspberries.
Stomach
, colon, and
breast cancer
cells were treated with berry extract and with HCl and ascorbic acid solutions of the same pH. A dilution of 7.5% ascorbic acid solution, of the same pH and slightly higher antioxidant concentration than the berry extract, killed less than 10% of the stomach and colon cancer cells. In contrast, the berry extract at this same dilution killed more than 90% of these cells. Antioxidants played a more significant role in the killing of
breast cancer
cells, however. For these cells, approximately 50% of the killing could be attributed to antioxidant effects. We conclude that the antioxidant effect plays a minor role in the killing of 2 gastrointestinal cell types, but its role in inactivating a
breast cancer
cell line is much more significant. No evidence of apoptosis was observed, and caspase activation did not contribute to cell killing by the extract.

Cancer is a major burden worldwide but there are marked geographical variations in frequency and incidence overall. The aim of this study was to find the frequency and distribution of commonly occurring cancers in Kashmir, with particular emphasis on urinary bladder cancer. A total of 4,407 cases of histologically confirmed new cancer cases were registered at the Medical Records Department (MRD) of SKIMS from a period between January, 2005 and April 2010. Among 4407 cancers, 2,457 (55.7 %) were men and 1,950 (44.3 %) were women. Stomach cancer is the leading one with an average frequency of 19.2 % followed by esophagus and lung as 16.5 % and 14.6 %, respectively.
Stomach
(23 %) and lung (21 %) are the leading cancers in men while as esophageal cancer tops (18.3 %) in women followed by
breast cancer
(16.6 %). This distribution of cancer types is strikingly different from that in the rest of India where oropharyngeal cancer is most common form. Among urinogenital cancers, bladder cancer was observed to primarily affect Kashmiri population (5.9 %) followed by prostate cancer (2.1 %) and renal carcinoma (1.1 %). We conclude that Kashmir is a very high risk area of most commonly occurring cancers particularly cancers of gastrointestinal tract which comprise more than half the frequency of all the cancers.

We present fluorodeoxy glucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) findings in a case of breast carcinoma. The PET/CT findings in this case were suspicious of second primary neoplasm in the stomach. However, on endoscopic biopsy, the lesion was found to be stomach metastasis of breast carcinoma with estrogen receptor positivity.
Stomach
is a rare site of breast carcinoma metastasis. Our case suggests that it is difficult to distinguish a stomach metastasis of
breast cancer
from a primary gastric cancer on the basis of clinical and imaging features. However, this differential diagnosis must be kept in mind and it is important to make such distinction because of its implications on patient management.

Herbal formulas based on the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome (ZHENG) have been used as alternative treatments for
breast cancer
. However, there is a lack of the experimental animal ZHENG model for the evaluation of the herbal formulas. In this study, we have established 4T1 mouse
breast cancer
with Liver Fire Invading
Stomach
Syndrome model (4T1 LFISS mice) and investigated the effects of the herbal formula, Zuo-Jin Wan (ZJW). Our results showed that 4T1 LFISS mice have the features of LFISS including irritability, loss of appetite, yellow urine, chow, and a tail hot. Compared to untreated 4T1 LFISS mice, ZJW significantly reduced tumor weight and volume (P < 0.05), although it was weaker than Cisplatin. However, ZJW significantly increased the body weight and food intake of 4T1 LFISS mice and decreased serum ALT, AST, Cr, and BUN levels and ZHENG score (P < 0.05), while Cisplatin reduced the food intake, and body weight and increased serum ALT, AST, Cr, and BUN levels in 4T1 LFISS mice. Our study has provided a mouse
breast cancer
ZHENG model and showed that ZJW suppresses tumor growth and improves LFISS and kidney and liver functions in the 4T1 LFISS mice.

Breast cancer
is the most common tumour in women. Only 5-15% of
breast cancer
patients have distant metastases at diagnosis. Here we describe the case of a previously healthy 43-year-old woman with nausea, postprandial epigastric pain, and constipation as the first clinical presentation of
breast cancer
. Total colonoscopy revealed colon metastases and the immunohistochemical profile favoured primitive invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast. Gastrointestinal tract metastases are more frequent in lobular histology of
breast cancer
.
Stomach
and small intestine are the most common metastatic sites, while colon metastases are a rare occurrence.
