Mucocele of the vermiform appendix was the term formerly used to describe all mucin-secreting lesions of the appendix. In actuality, there are three distinct clinicopathologic entities based on histologic differences. These are mucosal hyperplasia, cystadenoma, and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix.
