Adrenal cysts are uncommon. A case of left adrenal cystic lymphangioma in 16 year old boy is reported. The adrenal cyst was a chance finding during radiological investigation for abdominal pain. Ultrasound and CT scan showed the cyst and suggested the correct diagnosis of cystic lymphangioma of the left adrenal gland. The patient underwent surgery and a left adrenalectomy was performed. Histology confirmed the previous diagnosis of cystic lymphangioma.

We report about one case of cystic lymphangioma of the jejunum in a 27-year-old woman admitted to hospital for abdominal pain. The study of this case and the review of the literature enabled us to bring out the main characteristics of the lesion: rarity in adults, benignancy, mode of occurrence--most often painful--, radiological--and particularly CT--features, diagnosis based on histological findings only, and lastly, treatment with surgical exeresis that must be complete to prevent recurrence.

We report a case of benign multicystic mesothelial proliferation (the so-called multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma) arising multifocally in the abdomen of a 46-year-old white man. His anamnesis showed an 8-year history of intermittent pain in the right lower abdominal quadrant. Mucin stains, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy confirmed the mesothelial origin of the lesion. Review of the available literature allowed us to find another 85 reported cases of benign multicystic mesothelial proliferations of the peritoneum. Out of these cases, eighteen only occurred in men, the majority being reported in middle-aged women mostly with complaints of abdominal pain. Electron microscopy or immunohistochemistry are needed to make a differential diagnosis towards other multicystic lesions, such as peritoneal cystic lymphangioma. Although multicystic mesothelial proliferations of the peritoneum have often been regarded as benign neoplasms, the true nature--neoplastic or hyperplastic--of these lesions still remains greatly elusive. Therefore, we believe that the unbinding term benign multicystic mesothelial proliferation (first used with regard to the unique hitherto reported case arisen in the pleural cavity) should be considered at present more appropriate to indicate even these peritoneal lesions.

Cystic lymphangioma is an uncommon tumor of the small bowel. A case in the ileum in a 3 years old boy is described. The clinical picture was with 10 months of progression with constipation, abdominal pain associated with meals and finally an acute abdomen suggestive of appendicitis. A conservative surgical treatment with segmental intestinal resection and termino-terminal anastomosis was curative. The anatomopathological findings are described and a revision of the literature is done.

A case of mesenteric cystic lymphangioma revealed by hypochromic anemia and abdominal pain, secondary to an intracystic hemorrhage is reported in a 4-year old child. Etiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of mesenteric lymphangioma in children are reviewed.

A case of benign cystic mesothelioma in a 53-year-old woman is presented. The patient had abdominal pain and a palpable mass for 4 days. This mass was noticed incidentally by an obstetrician. A computed tomographic scan of the abdomen and pelvic sonography showed a cystic mass, 6 x 4 cm, in the right lower quadrant close to the cecum and suggested cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary. Operation showed that the mass involved peritoneum in region of the appendix. Complete removal of the mass was done. Grossly it consisted of multilocular cyst containing clear, serous, gelatinous fluid. The light microscopic examination revealed that this lesion consisted of cystic spaces of various size and intervening connective tissue stroma. The cells lined the cysts varied from flattened to cuboidal with occasionally a picket-fence or hobnailed appearance in areas. Brush borders were seen on the luminal surface of some cells. Electron microscopic examination confirmed that the cells were mesothelial origin. This lesion mimics cystic lymphangioma of the abdomen grossly and light microscopically, from which differential features are discussed.

A 43-year-old woman complaining of upper abdominal pain was referred to our clinic. Well movable mass was detected in the right hypochondria region by palpation. Three years before, she underwent cholecystectomy and choledochotomy for cholelithiasis. After that she had been aware of painless mass in the right hypochondria region, but because of no symptom she regarded it as operative scar and had no treatment. Abdominal CT, ultrasonography, upper GI series and barium enema revealed a retroperitoneal cyst compressing the 3rd portion of the duodenum upward and the vena cava backward. Laparotomy showed an unilocular chylous cyst, 5 cm in diameter in the retroperitoneal cavity. Histologically, the cyst was cystic lymphangioma. Etiologically, the previous operation of cholecystocholedocholithiasis was supposed to be a trigger of the development of the chylous cyst.

We report a case of a 58-year-old man presenting with a mild attack of upper abdominal pain and who was found to have a swollen pancreatic body and tail. Pathological study of the resected mass revealed cystic lymphangioma. Only 30 cases of lymphangioma of the pancreas, including our case, have been reported to date. Here we present this case in detail and discuss the differential diagnosis of cystic lesions in the pancreas.

The authors report about two observations of cystic lymphangioma of the right colon. The patients complained of intermittent abdominal pain. Preoperative diagnosis is based on endoscopic findings (2 cases) and computed tomography films (1 case). A colonic carcinoma is associated in one case. Endoscopic polypectomy will be curative for pedunculated or small lymphangiomas. In other cases segmental resection seems to be the treatment of choice.
