A 5-year-old malnourished child was admitted with a 1-week history of paroxysmal
abdominal pain
. Evaluation finally revealed a left-sided perinephric abscess caused by Listeria monocytogenes. The child was successfully treated by drainage of the abscess and antibiotic therapy.
