The most common cause of
acute abdomen
in a child is acute appendicitis followed by mesenteric lymphadenitis, invagination, strangulation-ileus as a result of volvulus and more rarely perforated Meckel's diverticulum. However even with a child, from a differential diagnosis' aspect, a gynaecological cause should be taken in account too.
