We report a facile approach to prepare carbon-coated troilite FeS (C@FeS) nanosheets via surfactant-assisted solution-based synthesis.
1-Dodecanethiol
is used as both the sulfur source and the surfactant, which may form different-shaped micelles to direct the growth of nanostructures. Under appropriate growth conditions, the iron and sulfur atoms react to form thin layers of FeS while the hydrocarbon tails of 1-dodecanethiol separate the thin FeS layers, which turn to carbon after annealing in Ar. Such an approach can be extended to grow C@FeS nanospheres and nanoplates by modifying the synthesis parameters. The C@FeS nanosheets display excellent Li storage properties with high specific capacities and stable charge/discharge cyclability, especially at fast charge/discharge rates.

Multiple functions incorporated in one single component material offer important applications in biosystems. Here we prepared a divalent state of rare earth EuS nanocrystals (NCs), which provides luminescent and magnetic properties, using both
1-Dodecanethiol
(DT) and oleylamine (OLA) as reducing agents. The resultant EuS NCs exhibit controllable shapes, uniform size, and bright luminescence with a quantum yield as high as 3.5%. OLA as a surface ligand plays an important role in tunable morphologies, such as nanowires, nanorods, nanospheres et al. Another attractive nature of the EuS NCs is their paramagnetism at room temperature. In order to expand the biological applications, the resultant EuS NCs were modified with amphiphilic block copolymer F127 and transferred from oil to water phase. The excellent biocompatibility of EuS NCs is demonstrated as well as preservation of their luminescence and paramagnetic properties. The EuS NCs offer multifunction and great advantages of bright luminescence, paramagnetic, controllable morphologies, and good biocompatibility promising applications in the field of simultaneous magnetic resonance and fluorescence bioimaging.

Chemically reduced graphene oxide possesses unique properties and leads to a secure processing method for many applications. The electrical and optical properties of graphene oxide are strongly dependent on the chemical and atomic structure. In the present work, the reduction of synthesized multilayer graphene oxide sheets by both chemical and thermal methods to use them as a substrate in the field of molecular electronic device fabrication is reported.
1-Dodecanethiol
molecules are used to covalently bond on the surface atoms of reduced graphene oxide to constitute molecular electronic devices. The metal-organic molecules-reduced graphene oxide-metal junctions show a significant reduction in current levels and weak diode behavior. The observations confirm the tunneling as the conduction mechanism. The sheets are low cost, highly flexible, and can be used as a substrate to build the molecular electronic junctions.
