The following enzymatic activities were measured in serum of patients with benign and malignant ovarian tumors before treatment: alkaline and acid phosphatases, aspartyl (AspAT) and alanyl (AlAT) aminotransferases, leucyl (
LAP
) and alanyl (AAP) aminopeptidases, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, cathepsin, alkaline ribonuclease (RNase) and
beta-glucuronidase
. It was shown that at least three determinations (phosphatases and
LAP
) are practically useless in a discrimination between the examined groups. RNase in combination with AspAT (AlAT) or RNase with AAP and LDH were found to give the best results as marker enzymes.

Brush border enzymes of proximal tubules, lysosomal activities and protein content of rat kidney were analysed after whole-body irradiation using two different experimental schedules. Maltase, alkaline phosphatase and

For human mammary and ovarian carcinomas and transplantation tumours of rats clear hints found for an enzymatic-lytic effects of infiltrating tumour cells as a premise of the invasive tumour growth. In contrast in malignant melanomas there is no functional sign for a specific enzymatic-lytic effect of the living tumour cells to the surrounding tissue. In the mamma carinomas and ovarian carcinomas infiltratively growing tumour districts were characterized by an increased activity of the NADH-D, LDH, G-6-P-DH, IDH, MDH, SPase, UE,

and beta-GD. The transplantation tumours showed a high number of tumour cells with a high leucine amino-peptidase- and
beta-glucuronidase
-activity in a middle zone that was localized under the tumour edge district. The increased activity of the
LAP
and beta-GD found in the infiltration zone of the tumours is considered as an demonstration of a strong proteolytic activity of the tumour cells. The findings are discussed in the aspect of the invasive tumour growth.

and cathepsin D activities and protein content of the kidney homogenate did not show any circadian rhythm in animals sacrificed at different hours of the day. The fluctuations of maltase appear modest and not dependent on a ligh/dark cycle.

Activity of 8 enzymes in neutrophils of tobacco smokers was assayed with histochemical semiquantitative technique. An increase in the activity of acid phosphatase and
beta-glucuronidase
was found in the short period of tobacco smoking lasting 6.5 years on the average. Low activity of
beta-glucuronidase
, N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase, non-specific alpha-naphtolesterase and

was found in the individuals smoking tobacco for 18.5 years. The authors suggest that carcinogenic action of the tobacco smoke is also related to the disorders in neutrophils enzymes activity.
