Text mining technologies have received much attention in biomedicine,
as a way of dealing with the vast amount of textual information in the
literature. As we begin to understand what we may or may not expect
from such technologies, however, the attention is gradually turning
to utilizing the results of such technologies, in addition to making
refined results available in a structured form. In this presentation,
I will outline the general research directions and results of our research
group, along with the uses of text mining in two areas, first for knowledge
discovery and then for ontology extension.
